Since it's founding in 1997, the CYC-Net discussion group has been asked thousands of questions. These questions often generate many replies from people in all spheres of the Child and Youth Care profession and contain personal experiences, viewpoints, as well as recommended resources.
Below are some of the threads of discussions on varying Child and Youth Care related topics.
Questions and Responses have been reproduced verbatim.
Where can I learn more about Child and Youth Workers operating independently or having their private practice. Under what setting can a Child and Youth Worker provide direct counselling. Example: Suppose a Child and Youth worker partner with other disciplines (psychiatrist, social worker) opened their own clinic; is a Child and Youth worker able to then provide counselling?
Also do any Child and Youth workers have experience with registering with the College of Psychotherapist through the grandparent route.
Thanks so much.

Hi Daisy,
I have been operating an independent child and youth counselling private practice for 5 years now. I have been working directly with a Clinical Psychologist since the inception of my practice. I was granted Registered Psychotherapist status in April 2015 and accessed the grandparenting route. If you are interested in going this route please know that the grandparenting phase closes permanently in March 2017.
I will take this opportunity to say that regulation of the field of Psychotherapy has opened many doors for me that as a standalone CYC-P I might not otherwise had available to me. I fully support the regulation of the Child and Youth Care field as I want to see the same doors open for all Child and Youth Care & CYC-Ps and increase the recognition of the role we play in children, youth and their families lives.
In short, it can be done!
