Job summary

The Behaviour Mentor is a key member of the supervisor team, working in close collaboration with the Behavioural Team. This role provides advanced behavioural support, oversight, and guidance to staff and clients across multiple programs as assigned by the behavioural team and in line with the mission statement and core values. The Behaviour Mentor ensures the high-quality implementation of Behaviour Support Plans (BSP), supports teams during Behavioural incidents, and assists with the intake process by collecting essential preliminary data to inform assessments and plan development. This position plays a critical role in maintaining continuity of services, supporting staff competency, improving communication between teams, and reducing wait times for behavioural interventions.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Qualifications Diploma or degree in Behavioural Science, Psychology, social services, ABA, or a related field. 3-5 years of experience in behaviour support, ABA principles, and behavioural data collection required. Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, trauma, attachment disorder and Behavioral Challenges is required Strong working knowledge of behaviour support plan and evidence-based teaching strategies Training in NVCI and/or other crisis-intervention programs Strong communication, leadership, and coaching skills. Leadership experience in a behavioral setting is an asset Ability to work in dynamic environments, adjust to shifting priorities, and support multiple locations as needed New Brunswick class 5 license, reliable vehicle, and willingness to transport clients is required. Strong written and verbal English fluency.

Responsibility

Key Responsibilities Behavioural Support & Oversight Provide on-site behavioural support to teams and clients across various locations as scheduling needs arise. Support the implementation of BSPs through coaching, modeling, and feedback to staff on correct implementation of behavioural interventions, reinforcement systems, prompting procedures, and de-escalation strategies. Assist in responding to behavioral escalations with a trauma-informed approach, using approved crisis-prevention method and provide leadership during challenging situations Communicate behavioural observations, trends, and concerns directly to the Behavioural Team for timely intervention adjustments. Intake Support and Data Collection Assist with new client intakes by conducting initial observations and collecting baseline behavioural, skill, and environmental data. Ensure accurate and detailed data is provided promptly to the Behavioural Team to support the creation of individualized BSP. Identify immediate safety or support needs during intake and communicate them to the behavioural team. Service Coverage and Continuity Fill scheduling gaps across programs to ensure clients maintain consistent services during staff shortages or transitions Provide temporary behavioral leadership to frontline staff at locations requiring additional support due to client needs or team dynamics as assigned by the behavioural team. Documentation and Communication Complete data sheets, ABC charts, incident reports, and intake documentation accurately and promptly. Maintain professional, clear communication with the behavioural team regarding client progress and staff performance related to behavioural implementation. Training, Coaching, and Team Support Assist with ongoing staff education related to ABA principles, behaviour support strategies, data collection, and behaviour management procedures. Mentor staff in building competency and confidence in implementing Behaviour Support Plans. Support the creation of positive, collaborative environments that encourage learning, accountability, and consistency.
