Take a deeper look at school bullying

According to the Youth Risk Behavior Survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 25 percent of Indiana high school children are bullied on school property.

In hopes of combating bullying, the Indiana Youth Institute is hosting a forum from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Healthy East Chicago, 100 W. Chicago Road, on how to break the cycle of aggression through education, prevention and intervention.

As part of IYI’s Youth Worker Café program, the forum is free and lunch will be served, but reservations are required by noon Tuesday. RSVP at www.iyi.org/YWC. Reservations may also be made by contacting IYI Statewide Outreach Manager Debbie Jones at (317) 396-2723 or djones@iyi.org.

This forum will feature Kim Harvey, president and CEO of Angels and Doves, a national recognized anti-bullying program.

Participants will leave with an understanding of the four types of bullying. Harvey will discuss how to recognize bullying victims and how to understand the aggressive behavior of bullies. Attendees also will learn how to intervene and help both the bully and the victim.

Youth Worker Cafés are designed to bring together local youth workers to build relationships and inspire collaborations to benefit children.
