Mall play areas aren't day-care centers

Visiting different malls in Arizona, I've noticed something they all have in common besides the stores: the children's play areas.

As a mother of two children, I spend a considerable portion of my time there. What I've noticed is that parents tend to leave their children in the play area and walk off into nearby stores. I'm not sure if they expect their children to stay in the area or if they think other parents will watch them.

Personally, I not only think it is neglectful but also dangerous. Children left unattended are more likely to be kidnapped or lost.

What we need are signs saying not to leave your child unattended or mall security close by so parents are less likely to get away with it.

I wonder if some parents see the play area as day care.?
