The occasion of the new year might provide us with an incentive for an All-Program Party, one for which residents, administrators, day and night staff, and board members all work together in different combinations to prepare a great festive dinner or luncheon to be shared by all.
First, a date must be selected which would be possible for all to attend. Equally important, dates must be established for times when everyone could participate in the planning and preparation of the dinner. It will be important that each person's suggestions are seriously considered, and that he or she will have at least one hand in the preparation of the gala affair.
Some might be part of a separate group for each dish or special feature of this event. I wouldn't be surprised if some members chose special roles involving setting up or serving. Others may be more comfortable around the stove or the coffee pot.. The main idea for the program to work is to get as many persons together, in different subdivisions and each to have a hand in the success of the meal. The actual feast provides a special time for everyone to enjoy and become a festive partner in the big day.
As you can guess, I'm striving to encourage you to have a day to work out the partnerships and the ways of having fun. The cost of this affair should come out of the general budget since it is part of the ongoing joint experience.
Such a celebration can develop the mutual respect that comes from sharing everything, from the planning to the washing of dishes, pots, and pans.
Whatever you decide to do, have fun and genuine enjoyment in this break from the usual routine.
