Handbook of Art Therapy
by Cathy A. Malchiodi

Review
Having read The Handbook of Art Therapy ... I was amazed at some of the
results I obtained analyzing some of the artwork of the children ... The book is
a compilation of clearly presented chapters dealing with various forms of art
therapy, best used as an adjunctive tool for teams of mental health
professionals. Malchiodi, clearly an expert in this field, has skillfully edited
this compendium of work, beginning with a historical view of art therapy and
continuing with chapters showing clinical applications for both children and
adults, further delineated for groups, families, and couples. The book is filled
with clinical case examples and shows actual drawings by the presenters'
clients. What I especially appreciated was the clarity of the writing, which
made it understandable to both students and experienced clinicians. I highly
recommend The Handbook of Art Therapy, not only for skeptics but also for
all who ply their skills in this complicated field of mental health.
The Family Journal: Counseling and Therapy for Couples and Families
An accessible and useful resource for any clinician who wants to know more
about art therapy or who wants to better understand clients' artwork in
treatment or therapy ... The handbook covers the gamut of art therapy
applications in a variety of settings. Readers are likely to find several
chapters that correspond with their own interests ... Handbook of Art Therapy
is a welcome addition to the art therapy literature. It is a useful reference
and a readable, interesting book to browse.

Case Studies in Music Therapy
by Kenneth E. Bruscia (Editor)

Excellent description of how music therapy is practiced, July 31, 1997
Reviewer: A reader
This book is a great resource for anyone with an interest in music therapy.
I am a music therapist, practicing now for about 6 years. I often refer to this
book for new ideas for my practice. I also loan this book to any friend or
colleague who really wants to know what music therapy is about.
The introduction itself is probably the best and most concise description of
music therapy practice. The case studies have been chosen for quality, depth, and
maximum variety of technique and philosophy. One appendix contains an index
which refers to the case studies by philosophical orientation, which I found
both fascinating and useful.
The only possible change I might suggest would be to refer to page number rather
than case study number in the index, which is a little confusing.
In all, a great reference and a fascinating, enlightening read. This book is one
of the prizes of my bookshelf |
