BOARD GAME
Sorry!

Description:
This classic game of luck, strategy, and determination is easy to
grasp for children as young as 6 years old, yet it's fun for
adults and older siblings too. By drawing cards, players move
their game pieces around the board, hoping to eventually
accumulate all their pieces at the final destination--home sweet
home. Sorry is known as the game of "sweet revenge," since players
can send each other's pawns back to the starting line, thus
forcing one another to lose ground and begin all over again. This
kind of frustration may be hard for children under age 8 to
handle. In fact, young ones typically crumble into tears of
outrage when their pawns are cavalierly sent back. The only
recourse is to teach children how to plot their own revenge, which
makes them feel as powerful as superheroes.

Innovations in play therapy
By Garry Landreth

Book review:
(Book News, Inc) This work
addresses topics commonly left out of other play therapy texts. It
examines not only medication, legal, and ethical issues, but also
discusses play as a diagnostic tool, play therapy with traumatized
children in a crisis situation, and play therapy with special
populations such as autistic and chronically ill children,
selective mute children, the elderly, and with adult DID clients
with child alters. It details innovative procedures in group play
therapy, and overviews the practice of traveling play therapists
in schools. Landreth is the founder and director of the Center for
Play Therapy.
Book description:
This book is unique in exploring the process of conducting
short-term intensive group play therapy and the subsequent
results. It focuses on play therapy with special populations of
aggressive acting-out children, autistic children, chronically ill
children, traumatized children, selective mute children,
disassociative identity disorder adults with child alters, and the
elderly.
The book addresses such vital issues as how play therapy helps
children, confidentiality in working with children, how to work
with parents, and what the play therapist needs to know about
medications for children. The difficult dimension of diagnosis is
clarified through specific descriptions of how the play therapist
can use play behaviors to diagnose physical abuse, sexual abuse,
and emotional maladjustment in children.
