A family for ME
Amanda
Amanda, who was born in 1994, is a kind-hearted, social teen
who enjoys playing games and attending church. She is described as funny
and easy to spend time with. She likes to read and to go for car rides.
She does well in the community and enjoys going on outings. She likes
all types of animals and looks forward to having pets of her own
someday.
Amanda is good at math and says she likes school. She currently attends a day treatment program to assist her with her academics and to keep her on task during the day. She is often the person who stands up for others in school and looks out for the underdog..
The best family for Amanda would be one that could provide structure and consistency. She would like to be an only child in a home with a single mother; however, Amanda's caseworker believes she could do well in a variety of settings. An adoption subsidy may be available for the most appropriate family.
Nick
Robert, better known as Nick, was born in 1997 and is an
intelligent young man with a keen sense of humor. He is a bit shy but
has a great personality. He enjoys playing games with computers, but
also likes playing and watching sports, with basketball and kickball as
his favorites.
Nick attends public school and does fairly well. He really likes math and likes to read, often going to his room to read when he needs quiet time. He also likes to work with his hands and has become quite handy. He recently disassembled a large swing set and built a birdhouse, and hopes to soon take an industrial arts class.
Nick would very much like a family with an older brother, but he also does well with younger children. He needs a family that will provide him with love and acceptance, and will continue to support him as he works through some of his past experiences and losses.
Amanda and Nick are two of 153 children currently in Maine Department of Health & Human Service's care who are seeking an adoptive family. 114 of those children have been waiting for permanency for more than a year. There are 2,064 children in the state's care and 1,225 licensed foster homes.
Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
