November a time to recognize those who work with foster care and adoption

Across the United States there are more than 500,000 children in the foster-care system and more than 100,000 of those children are waiting to be placed in permanent, loving homes. November marks the celebration of National Adoption Month, and serves as a reminder that there are children in our community who are still waiting for a "forever family."

The Children's Services Council of St. Lucie County would like to recognize several local agencies for the work they do throughout the year with foster-care children and adoption assistance. The staff and volunteers of United for Families, the Department of Children and Families, Guardian ad Litem, Children's Home Society, Hibiscus Children's Center and Family Preservation Services all work diligently to serve foster children and their families in our community.

We at Children's Services Council applaud their caring commitment and continued support. Without the ongoing efforts of the staff from these agencies and the volunteers and families that support them, too many children would end up facing life's challenges alone. Together, we can offer young people looking for a forever family the guidance, stability and love that are so essential for becoming successful adults.

We greatly appreciate all that is being done in our community to help children who aspire to find a permanent loving home.
